Level 85 Worgen Draenei Hunter
I resisted rolling a hunter for a long time. When I finally did create one, she was my 4th draenai, she had a goofy name and an even goofier hairstyle, and she became my bank toon. I did manage to get the ghost cat from Auberdine on her, but other than that she sold glyphs. She was eventually deleted so I could roll yet more toons (that would also get deleted). And then a few months ago I decided to try again. I already had a worgen mage but I can’t stand mages, so I decided to roll a worgen hunter just for fun. And PvP. (PvP is tons of fun at low levels on a hunter.)
I already knew I hated the way worgen look when using their fast run that they get instead of a mount, so the first thing I did was grind Darnassus rep to get her a kitty mount. I had forgotten about tabards so I did it the old fashioned way by hitting every quest I could find in the night elf zones.
Can we say addicted?
And while doing that I discovered rare pets. There are several in Auberdine and I immediately got them all, including another ghost kitty (after 40-something tries!). I tamed Shadowclaw, the Ghost Saber, and Duskstalker, and then discovered something: Cats drive me batty. They are gorgeous, they’re great fighters, but they’re excrutiatingly noisy. Standing still for any length of time next to one prompts me to either yell at or mute my computer because of the dreaded MROWR sound they make. So then I had to find more rares to tame. I grabbed the Strider Clutchmother and then headed to Loch Modan (which I love to say; Say it with me in your best dwarven brogue: LOCH MoDAN!). There I tamed Nix, Lord Condar, Gosh-Haldir, and finally Ashtail. Also at some point I added the unique Death Ravager to my collection.
And then… Then I found out the seagulls are tamable. Oh my gosh! Had to have one. That meant leveling, so I starting running dungeons to get to 42 in a hurry. Then I found a Sunburst Adder. I rushed to level 47 to tame one (he is gorgeous!), and then got an idea: To tame all pink and/or purple pets. I set off in search of said colors, and tamed a moth, a hyena, Arash-ethis, and tried to tame a pink worm. The worm is exotic, so then I rushed to hit level 69. Once there I tamed the worm and then one of my favorites, Ainamiss the Hive Queen, whom my son christened Baby.
Once I headed to Northrend, I found a new obsession. Instead of pink and purple pets, I went for Spirit Beasts. So far I have Skoll, Arcturis and Loque’nahak. Gondria has so far eluded me, but Loque’nahak is so badass I probably wouldn’t use Gondria anyway.
In Summary (aka I’m finally Going to Stop Typing)
Calocarpa is Beast Mastery and Marksmanship and I’m quite enjoying her. She’s fun to play (although hard to play well), she has great utility in the current dungeons since they require crowd control, and the search for pets is really entertaining. The Hunter was one of my favorite classes in Guild Wars and I think it may (finally) be one in WoW too.
Update
I just couldn’t take it anymore… The sniffing sounds, the horrible emotes, the laugh that sounded like a dude after an all night bender. So Calocarpa Jenkins the Worgen is now Calocarpa Jenkins the Draenei. Best 25$ I’ve spent on this game in a while. I no longer cringe when I “lol.” I can dance without thinking about meat dresses. I look hot in my clothes instead of weird. And I can wear helms again. Wooo! Most importantly, I’m excited to log in to her and I no longer wonder if I should level my human hunter instead (who is level 60 at the moment now a level 15 mage).
My spirit pets now include Magria, Gondria, and the challenge bird in hyjal. I have a couple of the challenge spiders and the challenge crab now too.
